The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 has been chosen by Cars.com to be “Play Car of the Year.” Cars.com editors say, “Everything you like about the Mustang GT – the power, the sound and the attitude—has been enhanced in the Boss 302.”

The Mustang Boss 302 has been absent in the Ford lineup since the 1969 model of the same name. It is a completely re-designed and re-engineered Mustang that drives like a racecar but runs on the street. It boasts a 5.0-liter 444-horsepower Hi-Po 302 4V Ti-VCT V8 engine that is capable of 7,500 rpm. It also features a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, Brembo front calipers and rotors, a 3.63:1 limited-slip rear axle, unique quad exhaust, and 4-gauge instrument cluster. The Boss arrives from the factor with adjustable shocks, struts, and steering system for the ultimate customized performance ride. Cars.com also suggests, “The available Recaro-brand front bucket seats are supportive enough for track work yet comfortable enough for commuting.”

In 2007, Ford began integrating its EcoBoost technology into new vehicles. Since then, Ford has continued to improve the EcoBoost technology, thereby significantly decreasing the amount of harmful Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere. Along with the new developments in the EcoBoost technology, Ford is making this technology available to the masses. By 2011, Ford made the EcoBoost engines available in almost every Ford vehicle, making it possible for a fuel efficient and environmentally conscious vehicle to be purchased on any budget.

Ford is still looking towards the future. During the upcoming decade, Ford will continue to leverage the hybrid technologies and the deployment of alternative energy sources. Ford has also set goals to continue developing models of internal-combustion engines that are dependent only on renewable fuels, so we can be free of our dependency on oil and work towards a cleaner, healthier planet.

EcoBoost is not only being recognized by consumers (with increased purchase rates in demographics that have not previously been known for purchasing Ford vehicles), but the EcoBoost is making waves with names like Popular Mechanics (listed as a “breakthrough” in engineering and green technology), and also Ward’s (given one of their 10 Best Engines” awards).

The EcoBoost is now available in the 2.0L I4 and the 3.5L V6, offering different power-train capacity for all Ford models. The EcoBoost is available in everything from the F-Series trucks (including the Ranger and the Super Duty), and also in the compact, already fuel efficient Ford models (like the Ford Fiesta – already capable of reaching 40mpg’s). With so many options and so many models, there is a Ford EcoBoost for every driver on the road.

That means that the gang at Big G is already enjoying the 84mph top speed and fast charging secret sauce that lets the Ford fully charge on a 240-volt outlet in just over three hours -- or roughly half the time it takes a Leaf to top off its batteries. Wonder whether the EV from Dearborn is destined to join Google's Street View fleet, its cadre of self-driving cars, or replace some of those multi-colored company bikes strewn about Mountain View?
